Come enjoy our first ever WLW mini-retreat in Laguna Beach at Folklore gallery where we will gather, connect and create together. In celebration connections made at our signature Well-Connected Event – where Folklore owner, Kelly Dye, met artist Danielle Hutchens – we invite you to a day of stillness, recharge, connection and creativity while enjoying the art of Danielle Hutchens and Ryan Snow on show.

We will begin our retreat with a powerful, self-reflective tea ceremony led by Folklore’s resident Cha Dao practitioner and astrologer, Sarah Reese. As we descend towards the darker days of winter we will gather together to mark this passage of time and growth. We will honor the Fall Equinox as a return to stillness and silence and leave the fire of Summer behind us. With living tea as our guide we will sit in ceremony to quiet our minds and rest in a more tender and present part of ourselves.

After this heart-opening tea sitting, Well Lived Woman founder, Jaimi Brooks, will follow with an integration exercise to deepen our connection with one another over a seasonally-sourced catered lunch.

To end our experience, we will create a framed cyanotype art piece led by artist Danielle Hutchens. Cyanotype printmaking, also known as sun prints, is an approachable and eco-friendly photographic technique that harnesses the power of the sun to create prints. This process relies on natural UV rays and a reaction of a light-sensitive solution, making each print a unique reflection of the collection of objects organized on the canvas.

Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned artist, cyanotype offers a wonderful way to explore the interplay between light and organic materials. You will be provided with organic objects for layering. Each person will leave with 2 prints, one framed and one unframed. Guests will also receive their own Sunprint Kit paper so that they can replicate the process at home in their own time.

Folklore Studio is a contemporary fine art gallery and community space in Laguna Beach, California. They aim to tell the stories of artists who create from a place of deep connection with the earth, using natural materials and practices that are ancient and reverent.

Sarah Reese holds space for others through the teachings of Yoga, the Cha Dao and astrology so that we can uncover and remember our own innate wisdom. She resides in Laguna Beach.

Jaimi Brooks is the founder of The Well Lived Woman, a psychotherapist, and women's group leader as well as the creator of the Values Deck exercise.

Danielle Hutchens is a Topanga-based painter and ceramicist and uses a sustainable practice to bring an earthy essence to her pieces. Her work explores themes of play, the balance of feminine and masculine energy, and curiosity of nature through the hands-on, patient process of natural materials.
